Tom Dowell

Executive Director

Tom Dowell has worked as a Cooperate Operations Manager, OSHA trainer, instructor, and presenter at various colleges and universities, and has over 20 years in executive management experience in the healthcare field. He attended Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware, and holds multiple distinctions including Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) as well as Licensed Community Association Manager (LCAM) in the State of Florida.

An experienced executive who believes in empowering others to bring forth their best abilities and ideas, Tom leads Veranda Club’s operations, care, culinary, and resident service teams by focusing on core values and working collaboratively to deliver a caring environment, continuous improvement, and the highest standards for customer satisfaction.

Edwin Cruz

Recreation Events Coordinator

Edwin Cruz graduated with honors from Kean University in Union, New Jersey, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Recreation Management before taking up residence in Florida some 25 years ago.

Edwin has been with the Veranda Club for six years. He holds a B.A. degree in Recreation Management, and has vast experience in the recreation field. He has gained valuable experience and knowledge from his past employment with skilled nursing homes, youth group homes, rehabilitative centers for youth and adults, private school camp and aftercare programs, city recreation centers and senior community living. “I enjoy what I do for the residents of our community and seeing their joy when they engage in our activities and events. The Celebrations team is the pulse of the community in that we ensure that our residents continue to pursue an active lifestyle.”

Iris Malin

Director of Nursing

Iris Malin’s career in nursing encompasses a variety of wide-ranging roles and experiences, having worked in the home health space, as well as in Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living. In addition, tenures working in correctional facilities and the ministry help demonstrate her commitment to healing and service, and round out what’s been a diverse and multi-faceted career in nursing to date.

Today, as Director of Nursing at Veranda Club, Iris leads a dedicated team of professionals united in their commitment to providing exceptional care and service to residents and their families. Iris believes that every day and every interaction presents the opportunity to heal the heart, mind, body and soul, and she appreciates the personal satisfaction derived from serving today’s generation of seniors, saying “Sometimes we inspire our residents; but more often, they inspire us.”

Johnny Ahmed

Director of Culinary Services

Johnny Ahmed attended The Lee Cordon Bleu Culinary School in Miami, Florida, and has 30 years of culinary experience with special focus on Jewish and Italian cooking. Having planned and directed dining and culinary operations on behalf of major hotel chains and upscale senior living communities, Johnny is well-versed in developing resident- and guest-focused programs that enable even the most discerning clientele to delight in their culinary experience.

As Food Service Director for Veranda Club, Johnny aims to work closely with residents and families to accommodate personal likes and preferences, as well as any dietary restrictions, all while ensuring superior food quality and menu diversity and making every day dining a most memorable experience.
